The Medical Student Systematic Review Group at Cambridge University.
Isla Kuhn, Head of Biomedical Campus Library Services, Chloe Edmonds, Joyel George, Isha Harris, Priya Kalairajah, Victoriious Olamona (Medical Students, University of Cambridge).
Abstract
The MSSRG is an optional course offered to all medical students in years 4-6. The course was developed in recognition that being able to identify relevant literature and critically appraise findings are key skills for all future doctors; that being able to conduct a systematic review is also a core skill for those interested in pursuing an academic clinical career path; and that existing reviews can often benefit from extra team members. The group provides students with six 1-hour sessions covering basic systematic review methods and the opportunity to join an actual, existing review team in order to gain practical experience of systematic reviews. This session will give an introduction to the course itself, and insights from the experience of 5 students from the current cohort.

Spring Forum 2026: Search Lightning! This review is automatic, systematic, hydromatic!
The 2026 UHMLG Spring Forum will once again bring together a fantasic line-up of speakers from around the UK, across two half-days in April (22nd & 23rd). There are a total of six talks on the overall theme of systematic reviews – some of which do, of course, discuss the use of AI in systematic reviews… but the focus is very much on the practical implementation, not on generalities or background.
Our core audience is UK / Republic of Ireland health and medical librarians from the Higher Education and NHS / health sectors, but we welcome delegates from any area of librarianship, and from anywhere in the world.
